Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. Robert Larry “Coot” Parks, 77, of Grenada, who died on Saturday, June 17. Burial will follow in the Parks family plot in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. James McElroy will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time on Wednesday, June 21, at McKibben and Guinn.
Larry was born on Sept. 11, 1945, in Grenada, the son of the late William Ira and the late Zelma Snyder Parks. He honorably served our country in the Mississippi Army National Guard and was a member of First Baptist Church in Grenada. An avid sportsman and outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as the fellowship that came with it. A very skilled artist, “Coot” earned a degree in art from Delta State University. He worked as a nursing home administrator and towards the end of his career, worked in the manufactured housing business.
In addition to his parents, one brother, Col. W.I. “Bill” Parks Jr., preceded Larry in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 40 years, Mary Grace Bugg Parks; his sons, Robert Larry “Robbie” Parks Jr. (Ann) of Grenada and Jonathan Ashley Parks (Candy) of Petal; one brother, Herb Parks (Jane) of Grenada; five grandchildren, Drew Parks (Jessica), Elizabeth Parks, Martie Byars (Joe), Zachary Parks and Kadee Parks and five great grandchildren, Avery Spencer, Chandler Spencer, Brylee Parks, Jaycee Parks and Nate Byars.
Bill Bugg, Gary Collins, Drew Parks, Shane Porter, Terry Snell and Joe Spencer will honor Larry by serving as pallbearers and will carry him to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Gary Harbison, Charlie McCormick, Mack Moorman and Lee Parks will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
