Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. Leland Scott Stewart, 48, of Duck Hill, who died on Tuesday, June 13, in Jackson. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Duck Hill.
Scott was born on April 1, 1975, in Grenada, the son of Dwight and Sandra Clark Stewart. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Edwin Taylor & Son Logging for many years and was highly skilled in his trade. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed collecting arrowheads and searching for other artifacts. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing and riding four-wheelers.
His grandparents, Leland Stewart and Lynn and Eleanor Clark, preceded Scott in death.
Survivors include, his son, Mitch Stewart (Anna) of Winona; parents, Dwight and Sandra Stewart of Duck Hill; sister, Amanda Stewart (James) of Winona; grandmother, Delorise Stewart of Duck Hill; nieces, Marleigh Robinson (Zach) and Haylan White (Steele), all of Starkville; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins and his faithful companion, Hachi, who traveled with him wherever he went.
Joey Bennett, Kevin Carpenter, Scott Marlow, Kenny Sykes, Ryan Taylor and Justin Williams honored Scott by serving as pallbearers and carrying him to rest in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
