Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs for John R. Cox Jr., 72, of Grenada, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 31, in Grenada.
John was born on Nov. 18, 1951, in Jackson, Tenn., the son of the late John Rogers Cox Sr. and the late Velma Dorris Cox. He graduated from John Rundle High School and earned a degree in education from Delta State University. He taught history in the Grenada School District for more than 20 years where he earned numerous awards and accolades including statewide History Teacher of the Year.
John was a member of First Baptist Church and was faithfully cared for by its Homebound ministry. John loved the Ole Miss Rebels. He was an avid train collector because of his love for the railroad where his dad and uncle worked.
In addition to his parents, his Uncle Joe Cox, preceded John in death.
Survivors include, his 94-year-old aunt, Mrs. Loyce Cox, and a host of cousins, caregivers and friends.
Ron Anderson, Blake Kimbrough, Pitt Kimbrough and Freddie Vance served as pallbearers. Mike Moore and Bubba Vance served as honorary pallbearers.
