Traveling numbers show that area roadways were safe during the New Year’s holiday last weekend.
The Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol’s Troop D, which includes Grenada County and 10 others, was tied for the lowest number of DUI arrests in the state with seven. There were no drug arrests, 32 seatbelt violations, 14 child restraint violations and a total of 384 motorist ticketed in this district.
During this period, MHP used all available troopers to combat reckless driving and remove impaired drivers from state, federal highways and interstates systems.
State troopers investigated 158 motor vehicle crashes and reported 27 injuries and three fatalities during the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol’s New Year’s holiday enforcement period.
MHP began the enforcement period on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, and the period ended Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021.
Troopers issued 6,306 citations and made 184 DUI arrests during the holiday period.
According to MHP, the fatal wrecks occurred in Jackson, Perry and Jefferson counties.
