Downtown Grenada is the place to be this Saturday, Dec. 5, with a number of scheduled events scheduled all day to celebrate the Christmas season.
The Grenada Downtown Innovative District has set the daylong Christmas celebration starting with the Merry Makers Market scheduled to begin for at 9 a.m. The Merry Makers Market will be held at First and Green Celebrations from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. For a small admission of $3, shoppers have the opportunity to purchase stocking stuffers all made by local merchants that consist of home decor, candles, jewelry and other gifts.
Masks are required to attend this event.
Holiday performances will also take place throughout the day, which include local musicians Kayla Braswell, Willie Reece Jr., Brooke Wright and brass players from the Grenada High School Band and performances by the Legacy Dance Academy.
Beginning at 2 p.m., photos with Santa will begin and take place through 4 p.m. Carriage rides will be available starting at 4 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m., so families can view the decorated homes, along the historic district. The carriage rides are free and are being made possible by Kirk Brothers Automotive.
Beginning at 4:15, a first responders’ parade and vehicle show has been scheduled recognizing the hundreds of law enforcement officers, medical professionals, teachers, pilots and others that have answered the call of duty during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Caroling will continue through the event and the highlight of the afternoon will be the Christmas Tree lighting at 5:30 p.m.
