Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. Larry Hugh Riley Sr., 73, of Grenada, who died on Saturday, Sept. 30, in Oxford. Burial followed in Pea Ridge Cemetery. The Rev. Tim McCaffrey officiated. Family and friends gathered one hour prior to the service on Friday, Oct. 6, at McKibben and Guinn.
Larry was born on Jan. 11, 1950, in DeSoto, the son of the late Edgar Ray and the late Christine Hiatt Riley. He was a graduate of Quitman High School where he was a standout linebacker on the high school football team. He worked for many years at Mississippi Chemical and ultimately retired as a maintenance supervisor at Bowater in Grenada. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Larry was a good man with a huge heart and will be remembered for many years to come as a man who excelled in everything he did.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Kathy Riley, and one brother, Charles Alton “PeeWee” Riley, preceded Larry in death.
Survivors include, his daughter, Lora Gibson (Rickey) of Pascagoula; his son, Larry Hugh Riley Jr. (Melanie) of Lucedale; his daughter, Amanda Hames (Curtis) of Pontotoc; his son, Michael Anthony Burrell of Elliott; three sisters, Paula Manasco (David) of DeSoto, Patty Combest of Stonewall and Lisa Harris (Ray) of DeSoto; two brothers, James VanBuren Riley and Edgar Wayne Riley, both of DeSoto; 10 grandchildren, Kristen Pellerano, Riley Parker, Noah Riley, Jordan Riley, David Burke, Michael Burrell Jr., Amelia Nabors, Daisy Hames, Hunter Hames and Shelby Hames, and five great grandchildren, Landen Pellerano, Rosaleigh Pellerano, Weston Pellerano, Braxton Krecker and Elizabeth Krecker.
Pallbearers were Noah Riley, Van Rayburn Riley, Riley Parker, Adam Pellerano, David Burke and Barry Kelly.
