Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. James Taylor Evans, known universally and affectionately as “Jay Taylor,” 23, of Holcomb, who died on Wednesday, Jan. 17, in Oxford. Burial followed in Sparta Cemetery near Holcomb. The Rev. Kevin Tribble officiated.
Jay Taylor was born on May 24, 2000, in Greenwood. He attended Grenada High School and worked in the construction industry. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and also excelled as a baseball player when he was in school. He never met a stranger and will long be remembered as a man who would give you the shirt off of his back. He enjoyed riding four-wheelers and treasured any time he got to spend with his friends. He will long be remembered for his big heart and contagious smile.
His aunt, Mandy Norwood, preceded Jay Taylor in death.
Survivors include, his 8-year-old daughter, Ellie Jayce Evans of Grenada; parents, Amy and Casey McClain and Chris Goss, all of Holcomb; grandparents, Mike and Judy Harmon of Avalon, Sue Carroll of Holcomb and Mike and Becky Thomas of Black Hawk; two sisters, Layney Goss and Maris McClain of Holcomb; three brothers, Jonathan Evans (Erin) of Stewart and Lane Goss and Memphis McClain, both of Holcomb, and a host of friends and extended family, who loved and will dearly miss him.
Dorothy Carver, Parker Chunn, Jonathan Evans, Lane Goss, Jake Hobson, Gage Rokasky, Jerry Thomas, Nick Watson and Dee White honored Jay Taylor by serving as pallbearers and carried him to rest in Sparta Cemetery.
