Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at Friendship Baptist Church for Mrs. Barbara Lynn Marter Lane, 77, of Grenada, who died on Friday, Jan. 19, at her residence surrounded by her family. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Grenada. The Rev. Sherman Barnette officiated. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Sunday, Jan. 21, at Friendship Baptist Church.
Barbara was born Nov. 6, 1946, in Grenada, the daughter of the late James Herbert “JH” and the late Syble Carter Marter. She worked for many years at Pennaco Hosiery in Grenada and spent the latter part of her career working with the North Central Mississippi Planning and Development District, and taking care of her angel girl, Mary Carter.
Barbara was a devoted church musician and played her first hymn in a church service when she was in the first grade. She served as a pianist and organist at the churches where she was a member. An active and devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church, she not only was involved in the music ministry, but also served as church hostess for many years. Her devotion to the Lord and her church was unwavering. Barbara was deeply devoted to her family and will long be remembered for the delicious meals that she prepared and the love that went in to preparing them.
Survivors include, her husband of 60 years, Purvis Lane; son, Terry Lane of Grenada; her angel girl, Mary Carter Barnette of Grenada and her sister, Linda Barnette (Sherman) of Grenada.
Pallbearers were Carter Brandon, Chip Graham, Ricky Koonce, Samy McCracken, Stanley McDonald and Steve Thomas. Honorary pallbearers were John Landon DuBard, Donnie Hodges, Billy Meredith, Hunter Smith and Bobby White.
