A graveside service was held immediately following visitation on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, in Oakland Cemetery for Mr. Walter Vernon “Walt” Moore III, 70, of Oakland, who died on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at his residence. The family received friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada.
Walt was born on Oct. 15, 1954, in Grenada, the son of the late Walter Vernon Moore Jr. and the late Mary Belle Forrest Moore. He earned a degree in agricultural economics from Mississippi State University and returned home to continue the proud tradition of the Moore Farm in Oakland, which has been in continuous operation since 1853.
Walt married the former Jerilou James of Gore Springs and together they shared more than 51 years of devoted marriage. An avid outdoorsman, Walt especially loved big game hunting and enjoyed traveling across the United States in pursuit of his passion.
In addition to his parents, one sister, Mary Moore Green, and two brothers, Lee F. Moore and Kevin P. Moore, preceded Walt in death.
Survivors include, his loving wife, Dr. Jerilou James Moore; one sister, Ruth Moore Davis (Neill); one brother, Edward W. Moore (Dawn), and a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
Pallbearers were Josh James, Cody James, Tripp James, Stan Green, Hayden Baker, Charlie Forrest and Rich Ross. Honorary pallbearers were Will Grant and Gene Standridge.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
