This week, The Grenada Star spotlights 73-year-old Lynn Brister of Grenada.
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born in Lucedale on Oct. 2, 1949.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: My parents were Woodie and Helen Moffett.
Q: What did your parents do for a living?
A: My father was a pharmacist and my mother was a teacher, but she stayed at home most of the time.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: I have two brothers, Larry Moffett and Lee Moffett.
Q: Where did you attend school?
A: I graduated high school from Gulfport City Schools. I first went to the University of Southern Mississippi, but finished my degree at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock.
Q: What do you recall most from your childhood?
A: I grew up in a wonderful loving Christian home. I remember all of the vacations we used to go on. I had wonderful parents who really loved us. I had a wonderful upbringing.
Q: Where have you lived?
A: I have lived in Lucedale, Grenada, Little Rock, Ark., and Monroe, La.
Q: What do you like most about Grenada?
A: I love the small-town community atmosphere. I love our church here. It is easy to raise your children here.
Q: What is your husband’s name?
A: My husband’s name is Henry Brister.
Q: How long have you been married?
A: We have been married for 54 years now.
Q: What made your spouse the one for you?
A: He told me that he always prayed for God to send him a Godly wife and that he told God it was time for him to settle down, and he started praying for a good wife. He was 22 when we met and he told me that God placed me in his life and that I was the one he had prayed for. After meeting each other on a blind date, the rest is history.
Q: What advice do you give married couples for them to have a long, healthy marriage like you do?
A: Henry and I read the Bible together. That is one of my favorite things to do with him. My advice would be to grow in faith together. Spend time with one another reading God’s Word together. Do your devotionals together. Make time for one another. Life can get busy with children and other activities, but you must spend time with your spouse.
Q: Do you have any children?
A: We have three boys, Hap, Heath and Hayes. I also have two daughter-in-loves, Paige and Leigh who I claim as my girls. I am so blessed with these wonderful children.
Q: Where do your children live and what do they do for a living?
A: Hap lives in Grenada and has Family Health Clinic. Heath lives in Madison and is a CPA. Hayes lives in Chicago, Ill., and is a designer/architect.
Q: Where do you attend church?
A: First Methodist Church.
Q: Where did you work? What was your role?
A: I was a teacher. I taught private art lessons and community Bible study. I still teach a Sunday school class at church.
Q: Do you have any grandchildren?
A: Yes, I do. I love my grandchildren. Tate is 21, Sophie is 18, Cecile is 14, Taft is 13 and Amelia is 9.
Q: Do you do a lot of traveling?
A: We go on vacation with our family each year, but most of our traveling is spent attending our grandchildren’s event. We love supporting them in whatever they have going on at that time.
Q: What inventions have you witnessed that intrigue you? Why?
A: Colored TV. I remember thinking that it was so amazing to actually be able to watch something in color instead of black and white. Most cars and cell phones now are very smart. Cars can drive themselves and you can do just about anything you want from a cell phone now.
Q: What keeps you busy these days?
A: My grandchildren for sure keep us busy. We enjoy being active in our church. I love getting to spend time with my lady friends. We are all learning how to play bridge, again. We all used to play, but we are learning how again. It has been so much fun.
Q: What is your favorite TV show and movie? Why?
A: I would have to say “Blue Bloods,” and anything on the Hallmark Channel are my favorite TV shows, and my favorite movie would have to be “Forrest Gump” or “The Blind Side.”
Q: What advice would you like to give people on staying healthy?
A: Get active. Walk. Eat healthy. Exercise.
