Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery for Mrs. Rebecca Joy Hobgood Liddell, 65, of Holcomb, who died on Thursday, Sept. 7, in Memphis, Tenn. The Rev. Stanley Turner will officiate. The family received friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, Sept. 12, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada.
Joy was born on Aug. 23, 1958, in Greenwood, the daughter of the late Buddy and Rebecca Staten Hobgood. She spent most of her working life enriching the lives of children and found a calling in working as a dyslexia therapist at Carroll Academy. A faithful Christian, Joy was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing delicious meals she prepared with her family and friends.
Joy also thoroughly enjoyed “junking” trips with her best friend, Sherry Campbell. Above all, Joy found her greatest pleasure in being a grandmother. While her absence leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, we find comfort in knowing she held in her heart the cure to death, a relationship with Jesus Christ. She will be missed for many years to come.
In addition to her father, her brother, John Hobgood, preceded Joy in death.
Survivors include, her husband, Sam Liddell; mother, Rebecca Hobgood of Holcomb; daughter, Deana Liddell Thompson (Calvin) of Cleveland; son, Dustin Liddell of Holcomb; sister, Brenda Wilson of Holcomb; three grandchildren, Anna Taylor Garrard, Rebecca Grace Garrard and John Riley Earnest, and a dear, special friend, Sherry Campbell.
Pallbearers will be David DuBard, Eddie Hammons, Lamar Lee, Tim Liddell, Keith Livingston and Jeff Pickle.
