Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Patricia Darlene Smith Burns, 75, of Duck Hill, who died on Friday, Oct. 6, in Grenada. Burial followed in Grenada Memorial Garden. The Rev. Ron Sessum officiated. Family and friends gathered one hour prior to the service on Monday, Oct. 9, at McKibben and Guinn.
Pat was born on Jan. 3, 1948, in Grenada, the daughter of the late John Oliver and the late Irene Laura Hawk Smith. She spent most of her life working in the manufacturing industry having worked for many years at Pennaco Hosiery and later at Heatcraft. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Red Hill. A dedicated homemaker, she took great pride in keeping an immaculate home and also enjoyed working in her yard. She cared deeply for her faithful pet cat, “Blue,” which provided many hours of company to her.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Joseph W. “Jody” Burns; one daughter, Angela Rene Burns; one sister, Deborah Fitzgerald, and two brothers, Jack Smith and Johnny Smith, preceded Pat in death.
Survivors include, one daughter, Tara Rutledge (Martin) of Gore Springs; her son, Patrick Burns (Tina) of Duck Hill; three grandchildren, Samantha Marbury, Brayden Marbury and Katie Bug Burns; one sister, Cindy Sultan of Duck Hill, and two brothers, Bobby Smith of Vicksburg and Tim Smith of Missouri.
Ashford Englehardt, Brayden Marbury, Martin Rutledge, Jay Smith, Michael Wetterich and Tommy Wetterich honored Patricia by serving as pallbearers and carried her to her final resting place.
