Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, at Friendship Baptist Church in Sturgis for Sarah Jean Frazier Stribling, 90, who died on Wednesday, Aug. 17, in Ackerman surrounded by her loving family. Burial followed in Craig Springs Cemetery. Bro. Jeremy Brown, Bro. Jeremy McCrory and Bro. Charles Smith officiated. Visitation was held from noon until service time on Saturday, Aug. 20, at the church.
Jean was born on Nov. 7, 1931, in Grenada, the daughter of the late Lewis and Eunice Minafore Frazier. She was a longtime member of Friendship Baptist Church. “Miss Jean” was full of love for God and showed it by greeting and introducing herself to visitors at church. She had a “way with words” writing lovely cards to many including those in her Ladies Group that were absent from their meetings. Jean was an awesome cook and enjoyed cooking for her family and anyone who came in.
In addition to her parents, two sons, Mike Stribling and Tony Stribling; one daughter, Rosemary McGinnis Jensen, and her siblings, Opal Warner, Lee Frazier, L.C. Frazier, Ronnie Frazier and Ida Belle Frazier, preceded Jean in death.
Survivors include, her children, Leon Stribling and wife, Alice; Loretta McKenzie and husband, Jake, and Richard Stribling, all of Sturgis, and Carol Ray of Starkville and her daughter-in-law, Pamela Stribling of Sturgis.
One of her greatest joys was being “Mama Jean or Mamaw” to her grandchildren, who survive her including, Tania (Tim) Sloan, Thomas Wade (Rhonda) Stribling, Michael Dale McKenzie (Marci Brannen), Suzanne (Bryan) Mattison, Jennifer (Shannon) Edwards, Sarah (Drew) Jackson, Bo (Brandie) Stribling, Chris (Marica) McGinnis, Kevin (Sunny) McGinnis, Carmen Jensen (Zach Watson), Crissy Stribling, Hannah (Eli) Barksdale and Tori, as well as her 23 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings, Ezma Carpenter, Johnny Frazier and Larry Frazier.
Serving as pallbearers were Chris McGinnis, Kevin McGinnis, Tate McGinnis, Eli Barksdale, Shannon Edwards and Bo Stribling.
