Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, at Rosebloom Church of the Nazarene for Rachel Tharpe Lane, 82, who died peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 19, surrounded by her family. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, and one hour prior to the service on Friday, Sept. 22, both at Mortimer National Funeral Home
Rachel was born on April 13, 1941, the daughter of William R. and Lillian Katherine “Dimple” Tharpe. She lived a life full of passion, dedication and unwavering love for her family, friends and patients.
The kindest, most loving lady, Rachel worked as an OB nurse for many years before becoming Dr. Thomas Holden’s nurse for 17 years. She retired from taking care of her patients in 2007. She was a lifetime member of the Rosebloom Church of the Nazarene where she served as a steward on the board and taught many years as a Sunday school teacher where she touched the lives of a multitude of young people. Rachel’s culinary skills were legendary, especially during the holidays when she would cook a feast. Her strength, kindness and welcoming smile were a testament to her character and will forever be remembered by those who knew her.
Survivors include, her sister, Mary Catherine Tribble, and her husband of 63 years, John K. Lane. Together, the couple raised three children, Mark Lane, Charles Lane (Lisa) and Marila Wall (Lee), who blessed them with nine grandchildren, Jonathan Lane (Kalen), Justin Lane (Loran), Megan Moss (Justin), Hunter Wall, Cesley Roberts (Austin), Nelson Allen (Haley), Avery Wall, Katelyn Aldison (Gage) and Terryann Lane and nine great grandchildren. Rachel’s family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment she spent with them, including her many nieces and nephews.
Rachel’s pallbearers were her grandsons, Jonathan Lane, Justin Lane, Justin Moss, Hunter Wall, Nelson Allen, Austin Roberts and Gage Aldison.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
As we remember Rachel, we celebrate a life well-lived, a love well-shared and a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come. Rachel Tharpe Lane, a loving wife, mother, sister, dedicated nurse, a loyal friend and a gracious soul will forever live in our hearts.
