Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Mary H. Parker, 76, of Duck Hill, who died on Saturday, Nov. 18, at her residence surrounded by her family. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Duck Hill. Bro. Tim Lane and Bro. Eddie Lumbley officiated. The family received friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday evening, Nov. 20, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, Nov. 21, all at McKibben and Guinn.
Mary was born on Oct. 9, 1947, in Grenada, the daughter of the late William Howard and the late Nannie B. Nelms Hitt. She was a graduate of John Rundle High School and Draughon’s Business College in Jackson. She worked for several years in the Grenada County Chancery Clerk’s Office then as a bookkeeper at Randall Textron in Grenada for more than 18 years. Later, she joined the staff of Defenbaugh Finance Company and worked there until her retirement.
Mary was a member of Unity Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing the piano, putting puzzles together and working in her flower garden and yard. Above all, she will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She will be missed for many years to come.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Ronnie Parker, and one grandson, Houston Kyle Parker, preceded Mary in death.
Survivors include, her daughter, Janet Parker Lane (Tim) of Duck Hill; two sons, Craig Parker (Renee) and Justin Parker (Amber), all of Duck Hill; her sister, Elizabeth Beach (Kenny) of Grenada; seven grandchildren, Case Parker, Ely Parker, Wyatt Parker, Zach Lane, Kelsey Lane, Kaleb McDonald and Kaydee McDonald and a great grandchild, Raleigh Parker.
Daniel Beach, Tyson Blakely, Bill Defenbaugh, Zach Lane, Kaleb McDonald and Case Parker honored Mary by serving as pallbearers and carried her to rest in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Ely Parker and Wyatt Parker served as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Gideons.
