Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2023, in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Grenada for Marjorie Lou McNamara Davis, 95, who died peacefully the morning of Saturday, March 11, in Starkville. The Rev. Matt Schilling officiated. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Monday, March 13, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada.
Mrs. Davis was born on Oct. 3, 1927, in Greenville, Texas. She attended Leland High School and graduated from Mississippi University for Women with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She and Frank were married on Dec. 27, 1949, at Leland Presbyterian Church. She taught at Nettleton School District then Grenada School District before retiring to travel with her loving husband, visiting all 48 conterminous states.
A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Mrs. Davis was a longtime member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Grenada. She selflessly contributed to and volunteered her time to many community organizations over the years, including Daughters of the American Revolution and Palmer Home for Children.
Her parents, Marjorie and Homer McNamara; brother, Homer Charles “Mac” McNamara Jr.; husband, Frank E. Davis, and one son, Charles “Chuck” Davis, preceded Mrs. Davis in death.
Survivors include, one son, Richard “Dick” Davis of Starkville and fiancé, Melissa Swanson, of Millport, Ala.; grandson, Matthew Davis of Starkville; granddaughter, Mary Catherine Brooks (Nolan) of Leland and one great granddaughter, Whitley Estelle Brooks of Leland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the American Heart Association in Mrs. Davis’ memory.
