Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, at New Hope Baptist Church near Coffeeville for Mr. James Elmore “Jim” Warren, 80, of Coffeeville, who died on Monday, Dec. 18, at his residence. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Rev. Billy Hill officiated. Family and friends gathered one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at the church.
Jim was born on Oct. 12, 1943, in Memphis, Tenn., the son of the late James Remus and the late Mildred Edwin Davis Warren. He loved the Lord and was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served in numerous capacities through the years including Men’s Sunday School teacher. He spent most of his working life as a civil engineer technician with the United States Department of Agriculture. Jim enjoyed working Sudoku number puzzles, watching Sci-Fi and Westerns and was also a very knowledgeable history buff. He will long be remembered as a devoted family man who instilled in all of his children the importance of hard work.
In addition to his parents, one daughter, Miranda Jamil Warren, and one grandson, Owen Dean Brown, preceded Jim in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 62 years, Juanita Martin Warren; three daughters, Debra R. Warren, Kim Warren Bell (Keith) and Joyce L. Warren, all of Coffeeville; one son, James Elmore “Jay” Warren Jr. of Grenada; eight grandchildren, Justin Brown, David Brown, Daniel Bell, Amy Schroeder, Bobby Bell, Brandie Johnsey, Deadra Wilburn and Mia Claire Warren; 18 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Matthew Bardo, Bobby Bell, Daniel Bell, Keith Bell, David Brown, Justin Brown, Andrew Johnsey and Eddie Strauser honored Jim by carrying him to rest in New Hope Cemetery. Jim Bennett, Bobby Martin, Homer Melton and Francis Williams served as honorary pallbearers.
