Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at West Shiloh Baptist Church in Stantonville, Tenn., for Geraldine Faye Barber, 77, who died on Sunday, Sept. 1, in Jackson, Tenn. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Rev. Truman Scarborough and the Rev. Steve Littleton officiated. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
Geraldine was born on Dec. 31, 1946, in Stantonville, Tenn. A dedicated educator, she worked for McNairy County Schools for 40 years as a teacher and guidance counselor, becoming the first elementary guidance counselor in the district. She was an active member of West Shiloh Baptist Church where she served in various roles including, GA leader and Sunday school teacher. Geraldine also participated in a mission trip to Lima, Peru, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and professional education organizations.
Geraldine valued education, earning degrees from Bethel College and the University of Tennessee Martin Branch. She cherished her family, especially her close bond with her sister, Maylene, with whom she shared a home. Her warmth and dedication will be missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
Her parents, Murray Frank and Bonnie Mae Barber; one brother, Murray Frank Barber Jr.; sister-in-law, Linda Barber; nephew, Randy Barber, and great nephew, Chad Barber, preceded Geraldine in death.
Survivors include, her sisters, Melba Maylene Barber of Stantonville, Tenn., and Delores Barber Scarborough (Truman) of Grenada; one brother, Neal Ray Barber of Jackson, Tenn., and sister-in-law, Dean Barber of Powder Springs, Ga. Although Geraldine had no children of her own, she had nieces and nephews that adored her including, Keith Barber (Ann) of Dallas, Ga.; Phil Barber (Deanna) of Kennesaw, Ga.; Stephen Barber (Dru) of Acworth, Ga.; Michelle Barber Reasons (Larry) of Hohenwald, Tenn.; Melanie Barber Melton (Brandon) of Jackson, Tenn.; Jay Feeley (Namiko) of Kyoto, Japan; Shawna Feeley (Stephen Wayne) of Bristol, Tenn.; Brendan Feeley (Mende) of Dallas, Ga.; Aletha Scarborough Simpson (Gilbert) of Scobey and Hannah Scarborough Ferguson of Coffeeville.
Pallbearers were Keith Barber, Phil Barber, Steven Barber, Brendan Feeley, Blake Melton and Austin Melton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to West Shiloh Baptist Church.
Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer, Tenn., was in charge of arrangements.
