A private graveside service was recently held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley for Edna Irl Lawrence Spencer, who left this world Tuesday, June 13, 2023. She made her presence known to her proud parents, the late Fred Moody Lawrence Sr., and the late Geneva Manuel Lawrence in Greenwood on Sept. 6, 1927.
The best thing about Edna was that you always knew where you stood with her and she never held back her opinion. She was always happy to have company and entertain, utilizing one of her many sets of dishes. Edna met her husband while on a double date, conveniently leaving her wallet in the car and the rest is history. She was a master at sewing – making all of her girls clothes – and she baked the best rolls you’d ever put in your mouth.
Edna’s favorite activity was shopping at Talbots, which will suffer a profit loss with her gone. She was a devout Southern Baptist and practiced her faith at First Baptist Church in Grenada.
In addition to her parents, her brother, Fred Moody Lawrence Jr., her husband, Jim, and her middle daughter, Patsy, preceded Edna in death.
Survivors include, her daughters, Cynthia and Beverly, and she was on this earth long enough to know two grandchildren, Trei Liles and Janie Logan. Janie being her favorite person above everyone else. She knew three great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests the memorials be directed to the charity of your choice.
