Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Allene Pyron Mitchell, 81, of Grenada, who died on Wednesday, Oct. 11. Burial followed in Smith Cemetery in the Rosebloom Community of Tallahatchie County. Dr. Kevin Jackson and the Rev. J. Barry Worrell officiated.
Allene was born on Dec. 3, 1941, in Grenada County, the daughter of the late Jim Allen and the late Hattie Pearl Peeples Pyron. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada. She spent most of her working life as an administrative assistant and retired from Thomas Wood Preserving. Allene cherished the time she got to spend with her family and rarely missed an opportunity to watch SEC and NFL football games.
In addition to her parents, her husband, John Berry Mitchell, and her brother, Jimmy Carl Pyron, preceded Allene in death.
Survivors include, her daughters, Vicki Brannan (Bruce) of Grenada and Melanie Shields (Scooter) of Gore Springs; her son, Keith Mitchell (Beth) of Grenada; two sisters, Mary Lynn Todd of Alexandria, La., and Elsa Ayers of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Brooke Beckwith (Randall), Kyle Franklin (Kayla), Matt Mitchell (Leah) and Drew Brannan and four great grandchildren, Riley Kate Beckwith, Kimber Franklin, Emma Mitchell and Millie Mitchell.
Sam Allen Ayers, Randall Beckwith, Drew Brannan, Kyle Franklin, Matt Mitchell and Burns Strider honored Allene by serving as pallbearers and carried her to rest in Smith Cemetery. Michael Mitchell, Alton Strider and Mack Strider served as honorary pallbearers.
