Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Mildred Louise Spratlin Shelton, 86, of Grenada, who died on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at her daughter’s residence in Grenada. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Dr. Brent Barker and the Rev. Eugene Heimbach officiated. The family received friends from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at McKibben and Guinn.
Louise was born on Aug. 24, 1937, in Houston, the daughter of the late Winfred and the late Lois Collums Spratlin. She was raised in the Loyd Community near Vardaman and spent her working life in the Grenada School System as she enriched the lives of children for more than 32 years. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Louise fiercely loved her family and was a devoted supporter of all of her grandchildren’s activities. She was a gifted conversationalist and loved running in to former students and visiting with them.
In addition to her parents, her sister, Scottie Ward, preceded Louise in death.
Survivors include, four daughters, Kaye Ward (Johnny), Pam Winters, Judy Blaylock (Randy) and Jan Teas (John), all of Grenada; six grandchildren, Jason Richardson (Misty), Jessica Richardson, Justin Winters (Jenni), Erin Turner (Cris), Brett Blaylock (Amber) and Dylan Teas; six great grandchildren, Cole Richardson, Aiden Richardson, Holden Winters, Lexi Turner, Colton Turner and Haysten Blaylock, and dear, special friends, Charles and Carolyn Pyron.
Brett Blaylock, Randy Blaylock, Dylan Teas, John Teas, Cris Turner and Justin Winters honored Louise by serving as pallbearers and carried her to rest in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. Charles Pyron served as an honorary pallbearer.
