Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023, at Womble Funeral Home in Charleston for Mattie Jean Young, 92, who died on Friday, Dec. 1, in Charleston. Burial followed in Magnolia Gardens in Paynes. Bro. William Tribble officiated. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Monday, Dec. 4, at Womble Funeral Home in Charleston.
Mrs. Mattie was born on June 7, 1931, the daughter of the late Elma Estelle Jones and the late Clinton Floyd Jones. She was a member of Paynes Baptist Church. Mattie and her husband, Lewis, owned and operated Young’s Service Station and Grocery Store.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Lewis B. Young; her son, Bergy Young; sisters, Beatrice Roach and Juanita Holland, and three brothers, Floyd Jones Jr., A.J. Jones and Tommy Jones, preceded Mrs. Mattie in death.
Survivors include a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Johnny Salley, Johnny Clyde Champion and Josh Tribble.
