Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Ms. Mary Gail Scallions Busby, 76, of Duck Hill, who died on Thursday, Oct. 9, in Memphis, Tenn. Burial followed in Holcomb Cemetery. The Rev. William Tribble and the Rev. Tim Winters officiated.
Mary was born on Dec. 5, 1948, in Grenada, the daughter of the late Freelon and the late Fannie Kendall Scallions. She was a former manager of the Fred’s Dollar Store in Grenada and a member of Zion Grove Church of God of Prophecy. Mary enjoyed gardening as a pastime, but spent most of her time caring for children – many of whom were not hers by blood, but she “mothered” them just like they were her own.
In addition to her parents, the father of her children, Morris Busby; daughters, Charity Greer and Morrissa Busby; granddaughter, Emily Busby, and two brothers, Earl Scallions and Ronnie Scallions, preceded Mary in death.
Survivors include, her two daughters, Leigh Wilkey of Oakland and Brandice Busby of Grenada; three sisters, Leresa Prewitt, Bobbie Melton and Brenda Mullen, all of Holcomb; one brother, Charles Scallions of Gore Springs; eight grandchildren, Kalee Busby, Shelby Timbs, Dakota Greer, Sara Kelly, Dallas Greer, Stormy Carroll, Summer Busby and Jayden Busby; a host of great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a special friend, Joe Timbs of Duck Hill.
Terry Bailey, Riley Busby, Dakota Greer, Dallas Greer, Ryan Pannell and Shane Scallions honored Mary by serving as pallbearers. Lee Melton, Chris Mullen, Dustin Mullen and Jeremy Prewitt served as honorary pallbearers.
