Grenada School District officials announced a two-week quarantine early Wednesday evening for sixth graders at Grenada Middle School.
According to GMS Principal Marshall Whittemore, the school’s sixth-grade students are forced to quarantine for the next 14 calendar days. In a memo issued to parents, the sixth graders will be taught virtually until a planned return to classes on Sept. 9. The memo also stated that after completing the quarantine period, it will not be required for sixth-grade students to receive a negative COVID-19 test to return to in-person instruction.
This is the third class to quarantine in the District. Previously both the seventh-grade class at GMS and the fifth-grade class at Grenada Upper Elementary went into a 14-day quarantine. The District also made it mandatory for students and teachers to wear masks inside of its buildings until further notice.
According to GSD, in an effort to maintain the safety of students and staff, these adjustments are necessary.
GSD Superintendent Dr. David Daigneault said the School District following Centers for Disease Control guideline, which states that if there are three positive cases in three different classes, that particular grade must quarantine.
