Roads and bridges from Grenada County north – especially those shaded by trees and other overhangs on backroads – remain iced over Thursday evening despite temperatures reaching above freezing for brief periods of time both Wednesday and Thursday.
Temperatures at this hour are 38 degrees and are expected to dip to 28 by 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, only to warm up to 33 degrees by noon and dip way back down to 16 early Saturday morning not giving much hope for the slippery mess to melt away. Frigid temperatures will continue Saturday, climbing to 29 degrees, before dipping back down to 15. Sunday’s high is forecasted at 41 degrees with a low of 28 before a high of 51 degrees is reached Monday afternoon.
With temperatures continuing to hover around freezing and well below freezing over a 42-hour period beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, the National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Hard Freeze Warning, which will remain in effect until noon on Sunday, Jan. 21.
Grenada County is currently under a Freezing Fog Advisory until 9 a.m. Friday.
Travel issues are expected to continue during this time. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution and travel only if necessary until roadways are clear of ice.
