Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at Winona Church of God for Mr. Lavelle Amason, 85, of Duck Hill, who died on Friday, Nov. 26, in Oxford. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Rev. Eddie Dodd and the Rev. Jesse Strider officiated. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, at the church.
Mr. Amason was born Dec. 30, 1935, in Smith County, the son of W.D. and Lanah Mae Canoy Amason. He was a member of the Winona Church of God.
His parents and one sister, Evelyn Kendall, preceded Mr. Amason in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Betty Irby Amason of Duck Hill; sons, Walter Amason (Chris) of Winona, Michael Amason of Vaiden and Glenn Amason (Judy) of Duck Hill; sisters, Jewel Kirksey (Billy) of Brandon, Elizabeth Errington of Pearl and Gwen Weeks of Shaw; brothers, J.D. Amason (Clara) of Clyde, N.C., Jimmy Dale Amason (Nan) of Greenwood and Arnold Amason (Barbara) of Mize; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Winona Church of God Cemetery Fund, c/o Laverne Palmertree, 706 Fairground St., Winona, MS 38967.
