Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service for Allan Powell, 78, our beloved father and friend, who went to claim his place at the Lord’s table on Friday, Dec 31, 2021. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Family and friends will gather from noon until service time on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at McKibben and Guinn.
Allan’s full life began on Oct. 20, 1943, born to Sanford Leroy Powell and Alice Hood Powell of Tallahatchie County in Mississippi where he graduated from West Tallahatchie High School. He continued his education at Northwest Mississippi Junior College in Senatobia. He began a career with Mississippi Power and Light before becoming an independent electrical contractor. His talented mind led him to a deep interest in aviation, history and all things mechanical, which earned him a reputation as a mechanical genius. He could construct or repair nearly anything with his remarkable ability to perceive on sight. His huge heart held great love for his family and many friends who are feeling the enormous pain of his absence.
His parents; his son, Will, and three siblings, Harry Powell of Philipp and Kenneth Powell and Bonnie Powell Goldman, both of Winona, preceded Allan in death.
Survivors include, his two daughters, Ashley Powell Golding (Jason) and Amber Powell Dale, all of Grenada and a brother, Sanford Leroy Powell II of Senatobia. He was also blessed with four grandchildren, Landon Tillman and Emily Tillman and Will Dale and Lincoln Dale as well as his many nieces and nephews.
