Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. Lewis Keith Putman, 86, of Grenada, who died on Monday, May 29, in Grenada. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Calhoun County. The Rev. Eugene Heimbach and the Rev. Barry Worrell officiated. The family received friends one hour before service time on Saturday, June 3, at McKibben and Guinn.
Lewis was born on Sept. 27, 1936, in Slate Springs, the son of the late John Gus and the late Elvie Barton Putman. He enjoyed a long, successful career at Heatcraft in Grenada where he devoted more than 40 years of his life, retiring as production control superintendent. Lewis was grounded in his faith at an early age and was a devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and in many other capacities through the years. He was an avid outdoorsman and particularly enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. While his absence leaves a void in the hearts of many, we find comfort in knowing he is resting in the arms of his Savior and has been reunited with his precious Virginia.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Virginia Putman, and two brothers, Dr. B.H. Putman and James Gerald Putman, preceded Lewis in death.
Survivors include, his daughter, Carol Hecker (Larry) of Grenada; son, John Putman of Ripley; sisters, Frances Byars of Birmingham, Ala., and Glenda Lantrip (Bobby) of Oxford; grandson, Joseph Putman (Shirika) of Olive Branch; two great grandchildren, Jacob Putman of Mandeville, La., and Logan Putman of Olive Branch and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Randy Byars, Joe Cox, Tyler Cox, Andy Grass, Riley Hogue and Joseph Putman. Honorary pallbearers were Hayes Branscome, Jimmy Collins, John Fly, David Kilgore, Ben McElwrath, Barry Rounsaville and Jack Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Senior Adult Ministry at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
