A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Grenada First United Methodist Church for Mrs. Bonnie Chloe Hunt Colbert, 87, of Grenada, who died on Monday, May 29, in Grenada. Linda Weir will officiate. It was Mrs. Colbert’s request that her body be donated to the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Medicine.
Mrs. Colbert was born on July 12, 1935, in Ohio, the daughter of the late Cecil Hunt and the late Lennie Brown Thompson. “Ms. Bonnie” loved and cared for many children while working at Freeman’s Little People’s Daycare. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Grenada.
In addition to her parents, her husband, James Eugene Colbert Sr.; one son, Christopher L. Colbert; stepmother, Eloise Van Meter Hunt; two sisters, Louwilda “Billie” Paxton and Geri Aldridge, and her brothers, Robert Hunt, Milton Hunt, Lawrence “Tony” Hunt and Dan Hunt, preceded Mrs. Colbert in death.
Survivors include, one son, James E. Colbert Jr. and his wife, Bea, of Winona; her daughter, Susan Colbert Miller and her husband, Jerry, of Grenada; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Colbert of Grenada; four grandchildren, Cale Colbert and his wife, Stephanie, of Winchester, Ken., Kayla Ivey and her husband, Reagan, of Grenada, Nicole Birdsong and her husband, Jacob, of Grenada and Gracie Colbert of Grenada; two great grandchildren, James Lane Colbert and Jacob Wylie Colbert, both of Winchester, Ken., and one sister, Cecilia Hunt Forbush and her husband, Charles, of Willow Wood, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Grenada First United Methodist Church, 161 S. Line St., Grenada, MS 38901, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
