Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, in the chapel of McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Laverne Ricks Funderburg, 78, of Hernando, who died on Sunday, Oct. 5, at her home. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens in Grenada. Bro. Larry Brinker and Bro. Michael Payton officiated. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Friday, Oct. 10, at the funeral home.
Laverne had a love for music and as a young adult shared her passion leading a youth choir at Elliott Baptist Church for several years. She worked for more than 33 years at the Mississippi Forestry Commission in Elliott where she retired from after years of dedicated service. In her later years, Laverne loved being able to spend more time with her family, especially her grandson.
Her father, Glenn Ricks; mother, Stella Ricks; one brother, Keith Ricks, and her sister, Carol Lewis, preceded Laverne in death.
Survivors include, her husband of 58 years, David; daughter, Amy Iverson (Jeremy); grandson, Conner, and one brother, Bobby Ricks (Brenda).
Pallbearers were Robin Clifton, Lee Fields, Mark Harville, Craig Morgan, Charles Norris and Mike Woods.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Elliott Baptist Church parking lot resurfacing project.
