A private service will be held at a later date for Larry “L.D.” Winters, a beloved husband, father and friend, who died peacefully on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, at his residence in Sardis.
L.D. was born on Oct. 11, 1937, in Luxora, Ark. He was known for his love for God, his unwavering faith and his deep affection for his family. His zest for life and innate kindness significantly impacted anyone lucky enough to know him.
L.D.’s life was characterized by humility and a devotion to serving others. After serving in the United States Navy as a young man, he continued to give back to his community as a sheriff’s deputy. He was always the first to admit his mistakes, showcasing his firm belief in forgiveness and redemption as the true path to Heaven.
L.D.’s legacy is a rare beacon of light, as he stood as a pillar of faith and love, reminding us all of God’s mercy and grace. He was a special soul whose touching influence will be remembered and celebrated. A life well-lived, L.D.’s wisdom and lessons will continue to guide those he left behind. His beautiful spirit will forever be cherished by his loved ones.
One son, Ronald Winters, and one daughter, Diane Hodges, preceded L.D. in death.
Survivors include, his loving wife, Ruth Winters; his children, Earl Winters (Valerie), Darla Trusty (Don), Phoebe Greene (John), Jimmy Winters, Vicky Boykin (Bobby), Sandy Furniss and Rita Harris (Wayne); grandson, Sailor Winters, and a host of other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
His memory will be held close by his many friends, all of whom felt the warmth of his love and attention.
