Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, 2025, at Vaiden Baptist Church for Mrs. Joyce Anne Pinkston Layman, 89, of Vaiden, who died on Thursday, July 31, at her residence surrounded by her family. Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery in Vaiden. The Rev. John Staszefski and the Rev. Philip McRae officiated. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Monday, Aug. 4, at the church.
Joyce was born on June 13, 1936, the daughter of the late George Anderson “G.A.” and the late Lera Minyard Pinkston. She was a member of Vaiden Baptist Church and a member of the Vaiden Baptist Church Live Wires.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Wayne Layman, and brother, Billy Pinkston, preceded Joyce in death.
Survivors include, her daughters, Patti Welch Stuart (Roger) of Vaiden and Theresa Layman of Madison; sons, Larry “Monkey” Welch (Teresa) of Vaiden, Kenny Welch of Diamond Head, Charles “Chuck” Welch (Carol) of Pelahatchie and Gary Wayne Layman of Terry; sister, Hilda McCorkle of Vaiden; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
