Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Lakewood Independent Methodist Church in Grenada for Mr. Joseph Clifton “Joe” Monteith Jr., 77, of Grenada, who died on Wednesday, May 5, at his residence. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Bob Cannizzaro officiated.
Joe was born on June 28, 1943, in Grenada to Joseph Clifton and Vera Hughes Monteith. He had worked in management for many years, serving as manager at Liberty Grocery Store, Piggly Wiggly in Winona, Sonic in Grenada and later at Sprint Mart. He was an avid golfer and a member of Lakewood Independent Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees.
His parents and brother, Tarlton Hughes Monteith, preceded Joe in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 49 years, June Monteith; sons, John Monteith (Olivia) and Joseph Clifton Monteith III, all of Grenada; sister, Margaret Monteith Davis of Grenada; grandchildren, Taylor June Monteith and John Pierce Monteith and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Lakewood Independent Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or LeBonheur Children’s Hospital.
