Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023, in the Jenkins Family Cemetery in Sumner for Mrs. Joan Thompson Sharp, 91, of Duck Hill, who peacefully entered Heaven on her birthday, Sunday, May 28, in Perkinston. The Rev. Lynn Welch officiated. The family received friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada.
Mrs. Sharp was born on May 28, 1932, in Tallahatchie County, the daughter of the late Joseph and late Virginia Anthony Thompson. She retired after working for many years at Pennaco Hosiery. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Grenada where she had worked in the nursery.
A skilled seamstress, Mrs. Sharp loved to sew and also enjoyed spending time outdoors working in her garden. She will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who will be missed for many years to come.
In addition to her parents, her husband of 66 years, Charles Quitman Sharp, preceded Mrs. Sharp in death.
Survivors include, her daughters, Debora Walker (Ronnie) of Perkinston, Elaine Boyle (Michael) of Duck Hill and Sarah Hanson (Mike) of Indianola; four sisters, Faye Clark of Pope, Jettie Whitsell of Mandeville, La., Mavis King of Washington and Nina Hays of Carrollton; her brother, Corley Thompson of Scobey; five grandchildren, Ron Walker (Amy), Melissa Walker (Chase), Liz Garlington (Shawn), Daniel Walker (Pamela) and Drew Hanson (Natalie) and eight great grandchildren, Ryan, Ashtin, Chance, Joanna, Katie, Luke, Sadie and Kol.
