A Memorial Service was held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, in the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel in Hoover, Ala., for Jimmy Ray Rose, 84, of Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Lithia Springs, Ga., who died on Friday, Oct. 13. Dr. Robert Whitmire of Monticello, Ga., and Dr. Greg Corbin of Birmingham, Ala., officiated. Burial followed at 3 p.m. in Mountain View Memory Gardens in Rainsville, Ala., with Pastor Herman Pair officiating. Visitation for friends and family was held from 9 a.m. until service time on Oct. 19, in the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel.
Jimmy was born on Oct. 23, 1938, in Grenada County. He grew up in Duck Hill where he graduated from Binford High School. He is a graduate of Delta State University where he was a member of the college’s basketball team, and the University of Mississippi. Upon completion of his college education, he accepted employment with the U.S. General Accounting Office. His work with GAO moved him to Huntsville, Ala., and later to Atlanta, Ga. He remained employed with GAO until his retirement in 1995.
While working in Huntsville, Ala., Jimmy met Beulah Rose Thompson. Jimmy and Beulah were married on Feb. 4, 1973, in Rainsville, Ala., and they resided in Huntsville, Ala. While in Huntsville, Ala., Jimmy was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Upon relocating to the Atlanta, Ga., area with his GAO employment, Jimmy and his family began residing in Lithia Springs, Ga. He was devoted to his religion and took an active role as a member of First Baptist Church of Lithia Springs serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was also active in serving others in need working with The Gideons International and the Ruritan Club of Lithia Springs, Ga.
Jimmy proved himself to be a wonderful, loving and dedicated husband and father. He enjoyed golf and the opportunity for he and Beulah to travel with friends and family during their retirement. Desiring to be near their children, Jimmy and Beulah moved to Birmingham, Ala., in 2018 where they began attending Lakeside Baptist Church until his health made doing so impossible.
His parents, Charlie Milton Rose and Ercile Morgan Rose, preceded Jimmy in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 50 years, Beulah Thompson Rose; son, Stephen Thompson Rose of Birmingham, Ala., and daughter, Kimberly Rose Ashley (Robby Ashley) of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Clayton Milam Rose, Mallory Rae Rose, Jackson Stephen Rose and Abigail Rose Ashley; his brother, Robert Lynn Rose (Genie Kay) and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Lakeside Baptist Church Memorial Fund, Birmingham, Ala., or the Parkinson Association of Alabama.
