Family and friends gathered for visitation from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Jean Sivley Gillett, 91, of Oakland, who died on Saturday, Sept. 16, in Oxford. Immediately following visitation, a graveside service was held at Oakland Cemetery with the Rev. Courtney Selby officiating.
Jean was born on Jan. 10, 1932, the daughter of the late Abb Miles and the late Annie Lovelace Sivley. She was a devoted homemaker and a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church near Oakland. She loved to travel and spend time with her friends and family. Jean possessed a sweet spirit and her kind, gentle ways will long be remembered as her trademark qualities.
In addition to her parents, her husband, William David Gillett Sr.; her son, William David “Bill” Gillett Jr., and her sister, Floy Sivley Haynes, preceded Jean in death.
Survivors include, her nephew, Ray Haynes (Marilyn) of Oakland; two great nieces, Christy Haynes and Kathy Gahr; great nephew, Kevin Haynes, and her special lifelong friend, Margaret Jean Ross.
Pallbearers were Billy Ray Adams, David Odom, Mike Robinson, Rich Ross, Richard Ross and Tommy Ross.
