A time of remembrance was held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. James Roy “Joe” Perry, 84, of Holcomb, who died on Monday, March 18, at his residence. A private burial followed in the Perry Family Plot in Oddfellows Cemetery in Grenada.
Joe was born on June 19, 1939, in Grenada, the son of the late Charles Crump and the late Louise Timmons Perry. He worked for many years at Heatcraft in Grenada and also served in the Mississippi Army National Guard, retiring as a Sergeant First Class.
Joe loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and duck hunting. He also enjoyed gardening and had mastered the art of tomato growing. He was a lifelong Presbyterian. As a young man, Joe gained vast knowledge of cattle farming as he worked alongside his Dad at his sale barn in Grenada. He also passed this on to his children and grandchildren as they still have cattle and enjoy riding horses today.
In addition to his parents, two nephews, Jody Perry and Bobby Perry, preceded Joe in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Barbara Perry; two daughters, Stephanie Smith (Eric) of Booneville and Iva Jane Modisette (Mark) of Holcomb; son, Jimbo Perry (Chellsee) of Holcomb; brother, Charles “Sonny” Perry Jr. (Judee) of Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren, Monroe Perry (Madilyn), James Allen “Chunky” Boatman, Alivia Moore, Laney Jane Modisette, Mark Lane “Boogie” Modisette Jr., Esme Smith and Ella Rose Perry; one great grandchild, Liam Monroe Perry; niece, Robin Hood, and nephew, Chuck Perry.
