Funeral services were held immediately following visitation on Thursday, March 21, 2024, in the Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada for Thomas Edward Massey Sr., 90, of Holcomb, who died on Tuesday, March 19, at his residence. Burial followed in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Oxberry. The Rev. Stanley Turner officiated. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, at Mortimer National Funeral Home.
Edward was born on July 20, 1933, in Grenada County, the son of the late Herman Lee Massey and the late Loree Yarbrough Massey. He was employed as an inspector at Heatcraft until his retirement after 42 years. He attended Bethel Baptist Church in Oxberry. Edward was an accomplished carpenter and did most of the work building his own home. He also enjoyed farming and raising cattle.
Survivors include, his wife, Jewell Lorena Ledford Massey of Holcomb; daughter, Priscilla Kay Massey Watkins of Walls; son, Thomas Edward Massey Jr. of Holcomb; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Bethel Baptist Church, the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
