A Celebration of Life Service was held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, at Bethel Baptist Church for Mr. James Ray “J.R.” Lee Sr., 79, of Holcomb, who died on Saturday, Sept. 3, at his daughter’s residence in Philipp. Burial followed in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Stanley Turner and the Rev. Millard Caulder officiated.
J.R. was born on Aug. 11, 1943, in Mashulaville, the son of the late Robert Fulton and Ira Ray Lee. He had worked for a number of years at Randall-Textron and Rockwell in Grenada. Later in life, he worked as a truck driver and farmer.
Mr. Lee was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church at Oxberry where he was recently recognized as serving as a deacon for 25 years. J.R. loved the outdoors and squirrel hunting with his beloved dog, Bud. He was a devoted family man and cherished the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. While his death leaves a hole in the hearts of those who loved him, we find comfort in knowing he held in his soul the cure to death, a relationship with Jesus Christ.
In addition to his parents, two sisters, Mary Opal Liddell and Frances Bennett Walley, preceded J.R. in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 59 years, Lynda Trusty Lee; daughter, Nessie Livingston (Keith) of Philipp; son, James Ray “Jaye” Lee Jr. (Ginny) of Whiteland, Ind.; two sisters, Dorothy Pickle (Larry) of Grenada and Alice Faye Reeves (Henry) of Coffeeville; brothers, Benny Lee (Edna) of Grenada, Lamar Lee (Barbara) of Water Valley and Felbert Lee of Lithuania; four grandchildren, Krystle Carmical (James), Karlee Livingston (Brad), Kylie Lee (Justin) and Sydney Lee and five great grandchildren, Drake Carmical, Drayten Carmical, Bayler Rae Carmical, Kaysen Stevens and Ava Hutchins.
Pallbearers were Phillip Bishop, Drake Carmical, Josh Coffman, Sam Liddell, Kaysen Stevens, Elliott Watson and Randy Welch.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Bethel Baptist Church.
