Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, at Lakewood Independent Methodist Church for Mrs. Inge Maria Bierenstiel Cook, 87, of Grenada, who died on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023, at her son’s residence in Oakland. Burial will follow in Cook Family Cemetery. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service on Friday, Oct. 20, at Lakewood Independent Methodist Church.
Mrs. Cook was born on Aug. 11, 1936, in Sandhofen, Germany, the daughter of the late Johann and the late Margarethe Spielman Bierenstiel. She grew up in Germany during World War II and met and married her husband, Clyde Roy Cook Jr., while he was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
Inge worked for more than 40 years at Pennaco Hosiery in Grenada and was a charter member of Lakewood Independent Methodist Church. She possessed tremendous skills when it came to knitting and crochet, and shared her talents by gifting handmade items like baby blankets, caps and dish towels to friends and family. Her grandchildren and great granddaughter were her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them, her children, extended family and many close friends.
In addition to her parents, her husband, preceded Inge in death.
Survivors include, her daughter, Deborah Cook Waller (Ron) of Madison; son, John Cook (Sherry) of Oakland; sister, Waltraud Feike of Rimbach, Germany; three grandchildren, Phillip Waller (Kate) of Arlington, Va., David Waller of Madison and John Austin Cook (Erin) of Oakland; one great grandchild, Camille Austyn Cook of Oakland, and a goddaughter, Claudia Remmert (Jurgen) of Birkenau, Germany.
John Cook, John Austin Cook, David Waller, Phillip Waller, Ron Waller and John Walton will honor Mrs. Cook by serving as pallbearers and carry her to rest in Cook Family Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Lakewood Independent Methodist Church, P.O. Box 822, Grenada, MS 38902 or First Independent Methodist Church of Madison, P.O. Box 2194, Madison, MS 39103 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
