Burial followed in Grenada Memorial Garden. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at McKibben and Guinn.
Helen was born on Dec. 6, 1923, in Indianola, the daughter of the late Henry Alious and the late Rosa Lee Tanksley Davis. Truly the definition of “The Greatest Generation,” Helen worked as an airplane mechanic during World War II. She retired as a telephone operator with AT&T where she enjoyed a long, successful career. She was also a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Helen was blessed to remain active up until her last days. Fishing, cooking and reading were among her favorite hobbies. Working puzzles and playing Scrabble and Dominoes were among the many activities she used to keep her mind sharp. In her words, “never be negative, love people, keep your sense of humor and always keep your lips painted.”
In addition to her parents, her husband, J.W. Tingle; sisters, Opal Blakemore, Melba Dees and Verla Pinion, and brothers, Henry and Paul Davis, preceded Helen in death.
Survivors include, her daughter, Janice Tingle Smith (Vance) of Grenada; son, Mike Tingle of Grenada; two grandchildren, Matthew Smith and Beverly Waters (Rodney); two great grandchildren, Hannah Martin (Grant) and Landon Waters; two sisters-in-law, Sue Davis and Lillie McDonald; brother-in-law, Andy Tingle (Sarah) and a host of nieces and nephews.
Clay Davis, Grant Martin, Matthew Smith, Harvey Sturdivant, Landon Waters and Rodney Waters honored Mrs. Tingle by serving as pallbearers and carried her to rest in Grenada Memorial Garden.
