Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, at Calvary Baptist Church near Coffeeville for Mrs. Hazel Eugene Hendrix Ferguson, 93, of Coffeeville, who died on Saturday, Oct. 1, in Water Valley. Burial followed in Clear Springs Cemetery in Yalobusha County. The Rev. Tim Smith officiated. Family and friends gathered one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the church.
Hazel was born on Oct. 6, 1928, in a small cabin on Choctaw Road at what is now Grenada Lake in Yalobusha County, the daughter of the late Will and Lola Koonce Hendrix. She was a certified nursing assistant and was also a longtime employee of Kellwood. She was a faithful and devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Coffeeville. She loved to sew and made her own clothes and those of her niece, Cathy. She also loved to sing and taught Cathy to sing as well.
In addition to her parents; her husband, Raymond Newton Ferguson; sister, Sarah Odessa Hubbard Pounds, and brother-in-law, John Haven Pounds, preceded Hazel in death.
Survivors include, her niece, Cathy June Pounds DeLuca and her husband, Joe, of Coldwater and a special friend, Shelby Kendall of Coffeeville.
