The family will receive friends from noon until service time on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at McKibben and Guinn.
Mr. Branscome was born on Aug. 28, 1933, in Duck Hill, the son of the late Lillian and the late Guy Branscome. After graduating from John Rundle High School, he attended Mississippi State University where he was a member of Kappa Sigma. He graduated from Auburn University in 1957, with a D.V.M. degree. He was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army and served two years. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church.
Upon returning to Grenada, Mr. Branscome worked in the cattle business as co-owner of Grenada Livestock Exchange and owner of Diamond B Ranch. He served as president of the Mississippi Angus Association, the Mississippi Livestock Markets Association and the Mississippi Cattle Industry Board. He also served as president of the Grenada Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow.
In his early years, Mr. Branscome was an avid quail hunter. Later, he introduced his sons to the joy of being in the woods deer hunting, spending happy hours sharing deer stands. After his semi-retirement, he became a serious Mississippi State baseball fan, following the team as they played from coast to coast. He also developed a love for travel as he and his wife, Barbara, traveled extensively in Europe, South America and the Middle East. Whatever other activities he enjoyed, he was seldom happier than being at his farm watching his cattle, which he did until his final days. Above all this, was his complete love and devotion to his family, especially to his beloved grandchildren.
Survivors include, his wife of 58 years, Barbara McCurdy Branscome; his sons, William Guy Branscome III (Shanelle) of Grenada and John Carl Branscome (Amanda) of New Albany; three grandchildren, Austin, Sara Brooke and Jack, and his brother, Hayes Branscome (Martha Fay) of Grenada.
Pallbearers will be Austin Branscome, Brad Branscome, James Bowers, Perry McGaugh, Jonathan Stevens and Josh Branscome.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to First Baptist Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
