On Oct. 26, 2023, Greta Sexton left this world and entered her heavenly reward. Per Ms. Sexton’s wishes, there will not be a service held. Her family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time. We take comfort knowing she is walking the streets of Glory and has been reunited with her husband and son who she has missed greatly since their passings.
Greta was born on Feb. 29, 1936, in West Virginia, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. U.G. Miller. On Sept. 5, 1953, she married the love of her life, C.T. Sexton. Through ups and downs – there were many – the couple faithfully stayed by each other’s sides until her stroke and his passing in 2014. In the early 60s, they packed up their life in West Virginia and moved with their two sons to Florida living in towns such as Haines City and Kissimmee where they started a new chapter in their lives and made many lifelong friends.
Greta worked many years as an LPN in West Virginia and Florida carrying her surgical scissors in her purse years after retiring because you just never knew when you may need them. They also spent many years serving their church faithfully as custodians. It was said they never could find anybody that could quite match the cleaning standards of their pastor and friend at Eastern Avenue Baptist Church. They once again packed up their lives and moved to Alva, in the 90s to live within walking distance of their twin granddaughters. It was during those years she lovingly taught them how to cook pancakes from scratch, sew, craft and attempted to teach them both crocheting. It was also where her granddaughters learned to love reading as much as she did. She made many trips to the Duck Hill Library in the summer so they could check out books. She and C.T. worked many years as custodians at Winona Christian School where they touched the lives of many individuals. Over the years, her granddaughters heard from multiple teachers and students how much they loved Ms. Greta and Mr. C.T.
In addition to her parents, her son, Randy Sexton, and brother, Danny Miller, preceded Greta in death.
Survivors include, her son, DeWayne Sexton (Robin) of St. Cloud, Fla.; granddaughters, Allison McGee (Matt) of Duck Hill, Angela Cox (Caleb) of Madison and Chelsea Velsor (Michael) of St. Cloud, Fla.; great granddaughters, Ava Cox and Mila Cox; her twin sister, Glenda Key, of St. Cloud, Fla., and a host of nieces.
