The Grenada Middle School football teams began Week 2 of their respective seasons by traveling to Oxford last Thursday.
In the opener the seventh-grade Chargers lost a 12-6 decision. It was their opening game of the season after playing an intrasquad game because Clarksdale didn’t field a team.
The eighth-grade team dropped to 0-1-1 with a 35-6 loss to the Class 7A Chargers.
Seventh-Grade
Grenada had a pair of touchdowns called back and two turnovers. Micah Jones, who finished with 97 yards on 11 carries, scored the lone touchdown on a 31-yard touchdown run.
Isiah Montgomery finished with 8 carries for 43 yards, while Waylon Elliott chipped in with 3 carries for 13 yards. Quarterback Nolan Mooney was 3-of-5 for 73 yards.
Defensive standouts were J.R. Gomez, Javarious Williams, Montgomery and Jones.
Eighth-Grade
Jaden Moss had the lone score for the Chargers with a 77-yard run.
Defensive standouts were Anthony Johnson, Tate Sullivan and Samson Rounds.
Grenada returns to action Thursday at South Panola. Games begin at 5:30 p.m.
