A small-town girl from Mississippi has made her way to the big city of Los Angeles, Calif., following her dream.
Grenada’s 18 year-old Jayden Lindsey has always had a passion for music. Her parents, Daniel and Katrina McMechan, were both music majors, and the ones that inspired her to follow her dreams and make music.
“My parents, they really drove me to be more into music,” Lindsey said. “Something that really inspires me too is, I love listening to certain music when I’m feeling a certain way or needing a confidence boost. That also inspired me to create something that would help me inspire other people.”
Lindsey attends AMDA College of Preforming Arts. She is working on her bachelor’s degree in acting. While attending college, she also celebrated her first single debut, “You,” which hit the charts April 1.
“I really plan on diving more into shows and performing once my music comes out,” Lindsey said. “I have never really performed in front of a large crowd and it would be a really big step for me to be able to confidently stand in front of a big crowd and sing my music.”
At just 11-years-old, Lindsey was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. She said that she was judged and not well liked for a disease she could not control. Battling ups and downs from this disease motivated her to follow her dreams. She wants to be an inspiration to others that also struggle from this disease or any other illness or issue in their lives.
“My genre I’m leaning towards is more of inspirational pop,” Lindsey said. “I love pop music and it’s what I really want to focus into. What I’m really creating right now is more inspirational. Diabetes is a very hard battle and yes, I have to live with it forever, but I can use this disease in a positive way to help others.”
Her father, who is also her manager is a huge support system and recently shared how proud he is of her recent journey.
“Letting her go wasn’t easy,” McMeachan said. “I was so used to just being at her beck and call, but I am so proud of the determination she has shown. This is tough I know, but she has been given a lot of life lessons to disciple herself to stay healthy and I really think this played a huge part in her music career. Everything is moving so lightening fast. She moved to L.A. less than six months ago and has already recorded two singles and is still an active student in school.”
Lindsey has signed with an agency out of Louisiana and plans to schedule a few events with the company singing at different venues over the summer.
“Right now I am really working on school, but once my music is released, I will really be focusing more in that area,” Lindsey concluded. “I am doing a lot more than I ever thought I would be doing. I’m doing big things and I want to say to everyone, just strive to achieve your dreams. No matter what they are, you can achieve them.”
