The Grenada Baptist District Youth Department is preparing to host its first-ever “Grenada’s Got Talent” showcase.
The event is scheduled for late April at the Lewis Johnson Senior Citizen Complex.
“We want the youth to know that during this season of COVID-19, which has affected all of us, and especially churches, that we have not forgotten about them,” Alvin Brown, pastor of Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church, said about the April 23 event.
Brown explained his goals and plans for the event last Friday.
“This is something that the Lord gave me back months ago to do for the youth of this community,” he said. “We want to encourage our youth and to bring a community of people together.”
Bringing the community together as a whole is the top priority for this event.
“We want to spotlight the talent of the youth that is here in this town,” Brown said. “I want this to bring us together as a community regardless of nationality, race, creed, background or denomination.”
The Grenada Baptist Youth District is asking for volunteers and sponsorships to help with the upcoming event.
“We are looking for as many volunteers as we can get,” Brown said. “We have sponsorship packages available for those that want to sponsor. We are looking for volunteers from different parts of the community. On the flyer you will see all African-American people, but we need voices in other areas and other neighborhoods and churches and denominations to let people know about this. We want this to be for the whole community, not just one group.”
Brown was able to sit down with Jones Stanford with All Saint’s Episcopal Church and Robert Moore of First United Methodist Church, and stated that both are on board with helping bring this event together.
“This is the key,” Brown concluded. “The key is to bring people together. The Word of the Lord declares where there is unity, there is strength, but in order for that strength to be, we must learn to unify. We need to put all else aside and come together.”
Brown’s wife, Sherill, is also on board and ready to support this event in all areas.
“I am just so excited for this event,” she said. “The children in our community just have so many talents and we want to just bring them all together to showcase them. It is going to be a lot of fun.”
Registration is for children ages 10-18 and can be filled out online through the “Grenada’s Got Talent” Facebook page or on its website, grenadasgottalent.weebly.com. Registration is $10. Any paper copies of the registration form can be turned in to Alvin Brown at Advance Auto Parts.
Anyone under the age of 10 is more than welcome to register, but will only be considered as entertainment. The out-of-town judges will not judge those under the age of 10.
The talent is not limited, and any talent you desire to showcase is accepted as long as it is clean and age appropriate.
Deadline for registration is April 2.
