The Duck Hill Board of Aldermen held their monthly meeting last Monday and took care of some not-so routine business.
They discussed the untimely passing of Alderwoman Lula Brown and the special election required to now fill her seat. The Board voted to hold the special election on Dec. 19, and to place an ad in The Winona Times stating their intent to hold this election, along with advertisement for potential candidates for the role.
The Board also had a discussion surrounding the Atmos Energy gas company and their previous agreement to allow any surplus of gas to be used for the Town of Duck Hill. This agreement was made back in the 1990s, but Atmos has now made the town aware that they can no longer honor this agreement. Atmos has given a year’s notice to the town of Duck Hill to find other means of supplying the town with gas, with this end date scheduled for Oct. 2024. The Board did not vote on this topic, but agreed to discuss it at a later date.
In other news during the Nov. 13 meeting, the Board:
• Heard brief presentations from several citizens of the town including one discussing the possible use of the gymnasium at the old Duck Hill School for the Committee for Senior Citizens for holiday events; one requesting an adjustment to her water bill; and a group of citizens concerned about dogs roaming around the town.
• Was informed by the police department of a missing body camera and made the request for a new body camera.
• Was notified of the broken gas meter at Camp McCain.
• Voted in favor of renewing the town’s website.
• Approved the October meeting minutes.
• Paid the city’s bills.
The next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Dec. 11.
