Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada for Mr. Curtis Powell Turner, 86, of Grenada, who died on Sunday, June 11, in Oxford. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Enid. The Rev. Eugene Heimbach and the Rev. Barry Worrell officiated.
Curtis was born on Feb. 19, 1937, in Tallahatchie County, the son of the late P.A. and the late Mattie B. Cole Turner. He worked in the Brazing Department at Heatcraft for more than 42 years and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was a hard worker and was always willing to help someone in need.
Curtis was a faithful husband for 67 years and a loving father for 64 years. He will be missed by all that called him family or friend.
In addition to his parents, his daughter, Sandra McRee; one sister, Callie Turner, and one brother, Charles Turner, preceded Curtis in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 67 years, Ivy Elizabeth Mabus Turner; his sons, Randy Turner of Duck Hill and Tim Turner (Tara) of Oxford; one sister, Diane Turner Cook (William) of Oakland; one brother, Jerry Turner (Janette) of Flowood; four grandchildren, Jessica McRee, Michael Turner, Megan Turner and Mary Bridges and six great grandchildren, Marisol Turner, Dawson Turner, Preslee Turner, Jude Bridges, Jack Edwards and Luke Edwards.
Pallbearers were Randy Turner, Michael Turner, Kevin Hardy, Will Cook, John Cook, Bobby Heath, Sykes Wood and Tim Turner.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
