Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Brenda Joy Allen Long, 72, of Duck Hill, who died on Wednesday, June 28, in Grenada. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Duck Hill. Family and friends gathered one hour prior to the service time on Friday, June 30, at McKibben and Guinn.
Joy was born on Feb. 25, 1951, in Grenada, the daughter of the late Clanton and the late Gladys Opal Dacus Allen. She worked for a number of years for Grenada Farms and later for Cook’s Portable Buildings. She enjoyed taking pictures, reading her Bible and crocheting. She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and enjoyed worshiping with other believers at Hebron Baptist Church where she was a member.
In addition to her parents, one brother, James Dacus Allen, preceded Joy in death.
Survivors include, her husband, Charles Long; sons, Robert Price of Georgia and Chuck Long of Duck Hill; sister, Kay Miller of Grenada; two brothers, John Wayne Allen (Judy) of Tyrone, Ga., and Dennis Allen of Big Creek; granddaughter, Olivia Price of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a special friend, who she loved like a sister, Karen Bennett, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Lensy Allen, Gary Bennett, Jonathan Frady, Steven Frady, Roy Haley and Mike Poe. J.E. Bennett served as an Honorary Pallbearer.
